City of Yelm Activates Creative District Taskforce

The City of Yelm has created a taskforce to discuss the creation and application of a Washington-state Certified Creative District in the community.

The Certified Creative Districts program works to help communities in Washington State thrive. Managed by the Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA), it is an initiative designed to support the state’s creative economy. Communities can apply for and, if successful, be granted a state-certified Creative District designation, which gives them the opportunity to strengthen their creative industries sector, diversity their economy, and enhance the quality of life for residents and businesses.

“ArtsWA’s role is to guide communities as they seek official Creative District Designation and implement their programs,” said Annette Roth, ArtsWA’s Creative Districts Program Manager. “Not only will we award certification, but we will provide specialized resources to communities while they’re in the planning phase and after they’ve achieved district designation. Resources include a planning toolkit, technical assistance, training, and networking opportunities. We will also support and track the progress of a community’s creative economy after they’ve been certified, to make sure they’re successful in achieving their community goals.”

Yelm’s Creative District Taskforce is seeking feedback from the community to gauge interest in pursuing Creative District designation. Take the survey here to share feedback.
