It is the mission of Public Works to provide essential infrastructure and utility services to the citizens of Yelm in a prompt, courteous, safe, and cost-effective manner. The department is responsible for operating public infrastructure in a way that respects the environment and provides the ability of government to adequately preserve these assets for future generations.
Public Works is the largest and most diverse department within the City of Yelm's municipal organization. The department covers everything from utility maintenance to animal control. Employees strive to provide exceptional customer service in every category to improve quality of life for the citizens of Yelm.
If you experience a water system malfunction or emergency after hours, on weekends, or during holidays, please call 360-789-9079.
If you experience a sewer malfunction after hours, on weekends, or during holidays, or if your sewer alarm comes on, please call 360-458-8411.
For all other emergencies or if you are unable to get through, please call 911.
Animal Control - If you live within the City of Yelm (city limits) and your dog has gone missing, there is a chance they ended up at Public Works. Please contact the Public Works department immediately or leave a message on the animal control hotline at 360-458-8438 if your dog is missing. The City of Yelm collaborates with local nonprofit adoption agencies to find homes for abandoned animals.
