Police Chief Todd Stancil - 1995 

Serving the Citizens of Yelm since 1995. Appointed to the position of Police Chief in 2002. Serves as the Emergency Management Director for the City of Yelm and is currently the Yelm Midday Lion’s Club President. Chief Stancil is currently the longest serving Chief/Sheriff in Thurston County.  Chief Stancil grew up in South Thurston County and graduated from Rainier High School in 1989.  He enjoys coaching football and basketball and spending time with family and friends.


Patrol Sergeant Adam Wood - 1993 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 1992. Currently the longest serving commissioned officer in the department. Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor and I.T. specialist for the department. Sergeant Wood was promoted to the position of Sergeant in 2003.    Sgt. Wood served in the Armed Forces and enjoys hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley Davidson.


Patrol Sergeant Rob Carlson - 2005 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 2005. Served as a Reserve Officer for Yelm in 1993 before being hired by Seattle Police Department. Sgt. Carlson then moved to Arizona and worked for the Lake Havasu Police Department for 10 years before returning to Yelm in 2005. Sgt. Carlson was promoted to the position of Sergeant in 2007 and also serves as the direct supervisor for the Reserve Police Officer and Field Training Program.   Sgt. Carlson served in the Armed Forces and grew up in the Olympia area.  He enjoys riding his Harley Davidson and co-owns a cross-fit gym in Yelm.

Patrol Officer James May - 1994 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 1990 when he started his career as a Provisional Officer. Hired as a full-time officer in 1994. Serves as the Reserve Officer Coordinator and Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor. Selected as Officer of the Year in 2012.   Officer May is originally from Wallace, Idaho and enjoys working on cars and spending time with his family.



Patrol Officer Stacy Field - 1995 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 1995. Served as the department’s first Crime Prevention Officer in 2009. Served multiple years as a School Resource Officer and is an Advanced Child Abuse Investigator. In 2009 Officer Field started the Volunteer Program which currently consists of 8 active volunteers. Officer Field grew up in the Olympia area and trains and shows horses in her spare time.



Patrol Officer Matt Rompa - 1996 Serving the Citizens of Yelm since 1996. Served as the department’s first Detective from 2003-2009. Trained as an Evidence Technician, Defensive Tactics Instructor and Field Training Officer.  Officer Rompa grew up in Anchorage, Alaska and enjoys the outdoors.




Detective Jared Geray - 1999 Serving the Citizens of Yelm since 1999. Officer Geray worked for the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department, City of Roy and the City of Rainier before joining our department. Officer Geray is a firearms instructor, field training officer and has served in the position of Detective since 2009.  Det. Geray served in the Armed Forces and grew up in Mahnoman, Minnesota and is an avid sportsman.



Patrol Officer Bill DeVore - 2000 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 2000. Officer DeVore has resided in Yelm his entire life and graduated from Yelm High School. Officer DeVore has served as a DARE/School Resource Officer for several years. He is a field training officer, member of the Thurston County Child Abduction Response Team and also serves as the department Gang Expert. Officer DeVore collects sports memorabilia and enjoys time with his family and friends.



Patrol Officer Joel Turner - 2003 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 2003. Officer Turner is one of two firearm instructors for the department. Officer Turner serves as a Sniper for the Thurston County SWAT Team and as a Field Training Officer for the department. Officer Turner also served as a State Firearms Instructor from 2009 – 2012 at the Basic Law Enforcement Academy.  Officer Turner was the world champion "elk bugler" in 2010.  He grew up in Eatonville and is an avid sportsman.


Patrol Officer Don Moody - 2004 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 2004. Officer Moody is a member of the Thurston County Hostage Negotiations Team as well as a department Field Training Officer. Prior to law enforcement Officer Moody was an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for Thurston County. Officer Moody was selected as Officer of the Year in 2011. Officer Moody grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and served in the Armed Forces.  He enjoys camping and riding his Harley Davidson and has been to Sturgis and other bike rallies.



Patrol Officer Devon Taylor - 2011 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 2011. Officer Taylor served as a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Yelm from 2002 to 2010. Officer Taylor was employed by the Tenino Police Department prior to joining the Yelm Police Department in 2011.   Officer Taylor worked as the security operations supervisor at Pacific Lutheran University and was selected as Officer of the Year in 2013.



Patrol Officer Chris Davis - 2012 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 2012. Officer Davis served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan before being hired by the Tenino Police Department in 2010. In 2012 Officer Taylor joined the Yelm Police Department. Officer Davis has received advanced training in the area of narcotic interdiction.   Officer Davis grew up in Pomona, California and in his spare time enjoys working out.



Administrative Assistant Donna McCann - 1991 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 1991. Mrs. McCann is currently the longest serving employee in the police department. Mrs. McCann serves as the department evidence technician and is one of two fingerprint technicians on staff.   





Records Clerk Pat Clark - 2004 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 2004. Ms. Clark originally worked for the police department from 1994-1996. Ms. Clark then worked for the Olympia Police Department from 1997 – 2003 before rejoining our department in 2004. Pat is also a trained fingerprint technician.     



Reserve Patrol Officer Mike Baker – 2003 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 2003. Since that time Officer Baker has volunteered more than 2000 hours of service to the community.  Officer Baker is the senior Reserve Officer and is one of four level III reserves. Officer Baker was selected as the Reserve Officer of the Year in 2012.      



Reserve Patrol Officer Kevin Ray – 2004 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 2004. Officer Ray has volunteered nearly 2000 hours of service to the community. Officer Ray is also the City of Yelm Public Works Supervisor. Officer Ray was selected as Reserve Officer of the Year in 2011 and is one of four level III reserves.   




Reserve Patrol Officer Don Wilson – 2004 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 2004. Officer Wilson is employed full-time as a Lieutenant with SE Thurston Fire District. Officer Wilson is one of four level III reserves.      




Reserve Patrol Officer Phil Ryan – 2011 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 2011. Officer Ryan is currently a Lt. Colonel in the military and is looking forward to a career one day in law enforcement. Officer Ryan was the president of his reserve class and is one of four level III reserves.    



Reserve Patrol Officer Jacob Theis – 2012 Serving the citizens of Yelm since 2012. Officer Theis is a graduate from Yelm High School and has resided in the City of Yelm for more than 10 years.
