Public Works
It is the goal of the Public Works Department to provide quality customer service while improving the quality of life of the citizens of Yelm. Public Works is the largest and most diverse department within the City of Yelm's municipal organization. The Department is responsible for operating and maintaining:

  • Over 100 miles of water and sewer mains;
  • The first Water Reclamation Facility in the State of Washington;
  • Three potable water wells and three reservoirs;
  • Over 18 miles of streets and 600 street lights;
  • 23 acres of parks; and
  • Nearly 125,000 square feet of occupied buildings.

Combined with these items above, Public Works is also responsible for Animal Control and many "other duties as assigned". Staying on top of all of these items requires a staff of 16 full-time employees all dedicated to serving you!
