Public Works

- Over 100 miles of water and sewer mains;
- The first Water Reclamation Facility in the State of Washington;
- Three potable water wells and three reservoirs;
- Over 18 miles of streets and 600 street lights;
- 23 acres of parks; and
- Nearly 125,000 square feet of occupied buildings.
Transportation - Public Works makes sure that all transportation system facilities within the City of Yelm are safe for the traveling public.
Water - Public Works is responsible for the repair and maintenance of the wells, reservoirs and water mains that convey clean water to houses and business within Yelm every day.
Sewer - The City owns and operates a STEP collection system and the first Water Reclamation Facility to be constructed in Washington State. The facility produces Class A Reclaimed Water that can be used for irrigation.
Stormwater - Public Works also maintains a stormwater system which is responsible for making sure that surface waters are properly managed.
Parks - The City strives to provide outdoor areas for the Citizens of Yelm to enjoy. Public Works is charged with making sure those areas are clean and safe.
Capital Projects - If you see construction work going on within City limits, chances are Public Works is involved.
Animal Control - If you live within the City of Yelm and your dog goes missing, there's a chance your pet may have ended up at Public Works. The City of Yelm partners with Yelm Animal Alliance to find homes for abandoned dogs. If your dog is missing, please contact us right away!
